Europe for Citizens – Network of Towns

Young people neither in employment not in education or training (NEET) in Europe increased up to 17% out of the total youth (Eurostat), but in some Countries this percentage is much higher (Italy,Bulgaria,Romania,Greece,Spain…). Moreover, the same young Neets perceive the EU as a very far Institution and this was concretized in a very low turnout in the last EU Elections. This gap could be narrowed only by actively involving these citizens in a fruitful debate on the future of Europe, after learning from its history.

6 Towns,1 Association of Towns,3 Civil Society Organizations, 1 LAG and 1 Umbrella NGO from 9 EU Countries + SR and ME, usually involved in work with Neet and underrepresented groups, thanks to the 24 months project “TIPS4EU: Tools for a more Inclusive,Partecipative and Sustainable EU”, will bring the existing 8 European Participatory Tools (EU Elections, petitions, citizens’ dialogue, citizens’ initiatives, Volunteering, Civil Society Organizations, Debating Europe, Consultations and Feedbacks) closer to their disadvantaged citizens, by giving them the instruments to have their say directly at EU level and work for changing their life conditions. With the use of formal and non formal education methods, 22 Neets will be trained as “Neet-Workers”. As multipliers, they will organize several local campaigns (practicing and simulating the existing partecipatory tools) in order to promote these tools among other disadvantaged Citizens and collect their feedbacks and ideas. The results of the local campaigns will be useful for the final discussion on the Future of Europe and on the right tools to boosting youth participation in the democratic decision-making process.

6 events + a preparation phase + the local campaigns will bring into the establishment of the “TIPS4EU Ngo”,which will assure to this initiative a long-term impact on the partner communities and at EU level, with the help of the communication tools produced (a web-portal,leaflets and USB pendrives).

THE LONG WAY TO EUROPE  17 – 19

Europe for Citizens – Network of Towns

The project “The Long Way to Europe” intends to give the opportunity to more than 300 participants, from 10 European Countries (Italy, Cyprus, Romania, Poland, France, Portugal, Croazia, Czech Republic, Serbia and Lithuania), to reflect, with the use of formal and non-formal methods,on the fundamental principles of freedom, democracy and human rights.

During the international events, the young participants will learn, see, reflect and act about the lesson of our history. Thanks to the visit of museums and historical sites, the testimonies of witness and experts, discussions and debates within the groups, the participants will be able to tackle these issues and to focus about today situation in Europe. These reflections will be expressed by the young participants with draws, murals or graffiti. They will also be trained to share their visions and expectations about the future of Europe as active citizens and to share it with the tool called ‘Porteurs de paroles”.

These innovative and participative practices of public place interaction will be used to promote directly in the streets the debate and the participation of the citizens about the European Values. These methods to raise awareness will be not only experimented during the International Events, but also organized by the youth in their communities (30 local events).

ESCAPE (2017-2019)

ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnership in Adult Education

“ESCAPE: Enhancing Seniors’ Competencies for Active Participation in Europe” is a 24 months project, involving 3 different organizations coming from Italy, Spain and France, working in 3 different but interconnectable sectors: senior education, ICTs, Eu Partecipatory Democracy.

The Strategic Partnership will start from sharing best practices and, thanks to a participative and inclusive implementation of the project, it will lead to the definition of a new Educational Methodology for promoting senior 50+ E-Participation in EU.

Senior citizens, especially those facing economic and geographical obstacles, would like to have their say at local but also at EU level. Their experience would really help the Europe in becoming closer to the needs of its citizens. How to do so? The only way is to use the existing European Partecipatory Democracy Tools (EU Elections, Citizens’ Initiatives, Citizens’ Dialogue, Petitions, ….) and maybe to propose new ones. This requires a certain knowledge of the use of ICTs.

How to help these seniors in taking actively part to the construction of the Future of Europe? The answer is: a new Methodological Approach, where adult education, ICTs and Active Participation merge in one unique Educational output: the ESCAPE E-Book.

During the project there will be organized 3 International meetings + 4 Learning/Trainngs activities + local educational activities.

About 18 participants per partner (Staff members, educators and trainers) will attend the planned meetings and at least 25 seniors per Country will partecipate in the field experimentation of the new methodology.

The final project result (the E-Book) will be available in the ESCAPE website, on adult education resources portals and on Social Media. In this way, every interested organization will be able to experiment it in its own context, eventually adapt it and bring benefits to its senior learners and, since they will become “digital” active citizens in EU, to the European Union itself.

SOLID 2018 – 2020

Europe for Citizens – Network of Towns

Among Europeans there is a considerable lack of understanding of global phenomena that shape their lives and everyday experiences. This results in the weakening of European solidarity and in the stigmatising some groups. This has also given space to the rise of populism in Europe as traditional tools of policy making- such as parties and democratic control, seem not to meet citizens’ needs anymore. In consequence, this important question arose: how can Europe still be a world leader when it comes to the fight for human rights and fundamental values?

The SOLID Network of 13 towns, regions and civil society organizations from all over the EU, FYROM and Serbia is willing to face this situation, and to empower citizens themselves to provide an answer. The aim of the project is to establish a long-lasting cooperation in order to create and implement new political tools that enable local communities to have an impact on the global and European solidarity in time of institutional and humanitarian crisis.

Through 5 transnational events, Network-building and local activities we are going to:

  • Interact with the communities, local action groups, activists and policy makers
  • Raise awareness on policies and competences of the EU relative to fundamental values
  • Understand better global politics, interdependencies and phenomena that shape citizens’ every-day experiences
  • Learn about the impact of the EU decisions on local and global environment
  • Find common solutions for promoting local and global solidarity development
  • Promote opportunities for societal engagement at all European levels
  • Disseminate tools and good practices of local and global solidarity.

The outcome of the project activities will be a SOLID Network of partners able to design, test and disseminate guidelines for a new policy tool – the “Manual for Solidarity 2020” useful for for community leaders, politicians and other relevant stakeholders, and a missing puzzle in the concept of the European citizenship!
